Matt Gorman, Administrator of Polk Medical Center, announced today that Charmaine Thomas has been named Chief Nursing Officer for Polk Medical Center.  Thomas joined Floyd in 2007 and has served as Director of Medical-Surgical Nursing and Assistant Chief Nursing Officer. She has most recently served as Interim Chief Nursing Officer at Polk Medical Center.   

“Charmaine is an intelligent, well-rounded leader who has significant nursing leadership experience,” Gorman said.  She also has extensive experience leading large, complex organizational projects.  These are all attributes that make her the perfect choice for the position.”

Thomas was named Interim Chief Nursing Officer in March and has focused on improving nursing efficiency and preparing for Polk Medical Center to transition to a new facility in the fall.

“Charmaine has been an integral part of the nursing initiatives at Floyd, and this has provided her with the experience to be in the lead role at Polk,” said Sheila Bennett, Chief Nursing Officer at Floyd Medical Center.  “She will continue to build on the excellent work she’s already begun.”

Polk Medical Center will move into a new, state-of-the-art medical complex this fall.  Located on Highway 278 between Cedartown and Rockmart, the 73,000 square-foot, 25-bed hospital will replace the current Polk Medical Center, originally built in 1944.
