A number of new park benches, along with several new picnic tables and commercial grade grills – the Cherokee County Park Board has big plans for Cherokee Rock Village – and they recently got a big boost from the Tillotson Menlo Charitable Foundation; that, in the form of a $10,000 grant.
As part of their on-going commitment to making Cherokee Rock Village one of the premiere tourism destinations in the country they have chosen the highest quality products available and they’re adding eco-friendly garbage cans with tamper-proof lids to keep wildlife, such as raccoons, out – further assuring that the grounds stay clean for park guests.
The estimated cost of this particular project is approximately $15,000 and the grant money from the Tillotson Menlo Foundation will be a huge help in having everything completed by next spring (2019).
Others recently receiving grants include NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness); Family Care Center; Cherokee County Public Library and Cherokee County Humane Society.
The Foundation actually began with a $1,000,000 donation from Tillotson Corporation and over the next five years the Tillotson Corporation contributed an additional $9,000,000 to the Foundation.
The Tillotson Menlo Charitable Foundation seeks to promote – through financial assistance grants – educational and individual skills improvement, healthcare, economic development, community enhancement, individual and human development, the arts, culture and social welfare and environmental improvement.
The foundation’s board members include – Theresa Canada of Menlo; Mark Pickle of Menlo; Jon Payne of Summerville; Robert McWhorter of Summerville; Arch Farrar of Summerville; Eddie Robertson of Centre; Jeffrey Richardson of Cedar Bluff; Bill Alico of Buffalo, New York and Janet Tillotson Munchak of Roswell, and as stated, Carol Mitchell of Menlo serves as the Administrative Coordinator for the Foundation.
