If you live in Georgia and you aren’t registered to vote, you have until tomorrow to do so.  Today is a Federal holiday (Columbus Day), but you may still register on line on the secretary of state’s My Voter Page. 

When voters go to the polls for the  midterm election they will be choosing between incumbent Governor Brian Kemp and his challenger Stacey Abrams – a rematch from four years ago.  Also, there is a U.S. Senate Race between incumbent Senator Raphael Warnock and former UGA football player Herschel Walker.  There are several other statewide races on the ballot.  Locally, Chattooga County voters will be choosing a Chattooga County Board of Education member.  Voters will decide between incumbent Democrat Lyn Hall or Republican Lori Brady.

According to www.georgiavotes.com, by Thursday of last week about 182,300 voters statewide had requested mail-in ballots for the General Elections.  That’s  27% more than the last midterm election in 2018.

The deadline to submit absentee ballot applications is 11 days before Election Day and can be returned by mail, email attachment, fax or in person at local elections offices.

Georgia’s voting law overhaul of 2021 added new ID requirements for voting absentee and also placed restrictions on the availability of ballot drop boxes that were popular in many places in the pandemic-plagued 2020 election cycle.
