The rebirth of the Tooga Theater in downtown Summerville will be the focus of the next Chattooga Chamber Meeting to be held later this month. 

According to the chamber, the history of the Tooga Theater, along with other theaters in the county, will be discussed and exciting plans will be unveiled about the rebirth of the Tooga as a community space for concerts, plays and programs.  Guest speakers will include Gene McGinnis of the Chattooga Historical Society and Gary Lowery of LDG Design Management.

The Tooga Theater is owned by Chattooga County Government.  Former Commissioner Jason Winters purchased the declining building from the Chattooga County Shrine Club in 2015 for $125,000.  Renovations of the exterior of the building were begun by Commissioner Winters and have been continued by current Commissioner Blake Elsberry.  Recently, the county has applied for another grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission.

The September meeting of the Chattooga Chamber will be held on Tuesday, September 17th.
