The Town of Trion is reminding residents who qualify to file for tax exemptions.  Mayor Johnny Ingle released the following on Monday: 

This is to remind the citizens of Trion, who own and live in their own house to apply for homestead exemption of $2,000.00 provided that you are 65 or older.  Proof of birth must be furnished to complete this form.  Acceptable documents are:  birth certificate, delayed birth certificate, driver’s license, birth certificate of child, marriage certificate, service discharge papers or an insurance policy 5 years or older showing date of birth.

THOSE WHO BECAME 65 IN 2012 AND MEET THE ABOVE REQUIRMENTS SHOULD COME IN AND APPLY FOR HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION BEGINNING IN 2013.  THOSE OF YOU WHO RECEIVED THIS EXEMPTION LAST YEAR DO NOT NEED TO REAPPLY.

The qualification deadline for this exemption is April 1, 2013, and no applications will be accepted after this date.

On November 2, 1999, the residents of Trion voted and approved a referendum concerning Local School Tax Exemption.  It is now time to apply for this exemption.

The qualifications are:

1.      You must be 70 years of age or older by 01/01/2013

2.      Your gross yearly household income cannot exceed $20,000.00

3.      You must reside on this property.

4.      Proof of birth and your income statement from Social Security is required.

 

Please come by the Town of Trion Business Office and bring with you the information listed above, and we will be glad to help you fill out a form for this exemption.
