A Tractor Trailer took out a mailbox on a county road this week.

While on patrol on Christmas afternoon, Chattooga County Sheriff Deputies received a call to a Bryant Road address regarding property damage. Deputies spoke with the property owner,  Mr. Ledford regarding a damaged mailbox. According to Mr. Leford, and his neighbor Roger Tapp a Tractor Trailer had been traveling down the county road and exited the roadway and struck the mailbox. Mr. Ledford did not see this, but Roger Tapp witnessed it. The driver of the Tractor Trailer did stop and speak with Mr. Tapp. The driver, who identified himself as Robbie Ramey, attempted to pay Mr. Tapp for the broken mailbox. Tapp refused and upon asking the driver why he would be on such a small road, was told that the Trailer was having mechanical problems with brakes.

Mr. Tapp pointed to Mr. Ledfords home and explained that the owner of the broken mailbox lived there. Ramey then took the broken mailbox and managed to stick the broken piece in the ground, and left. Damage was also noted to the roadway where there was not enough clearance to make the turn.

Deputies will attempt to make contact with Robbie Ramey and advised Mr. Ledford of proceedings with magistrate court.
