A routine traffic stop in Chattooga County led to the arrest of a 21-year-old man wanted on an active felony fugitive warrant out of neighboring DeKalb County, Alabama. Collin Everett Woods, 21, was taken into custody on Thursday, October 16, 2025, after law enforcement officers discovered the outstanding warrant during an identity check.

According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy responded to the area of Highway 27 and Rena Street at approximately 9:32 PM to another deputy on a traffic stop. Upon arrival, three male subjects were observed outside the stopped vehicle.

While deputies conducted a search of the vehicle, another deputy ran the driver’s licenses of the occupants through Chattooga E-911. The check revealed that 21-year-old Collin Woods had an active felony warrant from DeKalb County, Alabama.

Woods was immediately detained as officers awaited confirmation of the warrant’s validity. Once confirmed, and with DeKalb County indicating their desire to place a hold, Woods was formally advised of his arrest under the Uniform Criminal Extradition Act. He was then secured in a deputy’s patrol vehicle and transported to the Chattooga County Jail without incident.

The report also noted that one of the other occupants of the vehicle was arrested on a separate drug-related charge, while the third subject was released from the scene. Woods’ arrest was solely for the outstanding felony warrant.

Jail records from neighboring DeKalb County, Alabama indicate that Woods was extradited and booked into the DeKalb County Detention Center on October 20th on charges of Attempting to Elude a Police/Law Enforcement Officer-Serious Injury or Death/Speed Exceeds 20 MPH Over Limit, and that he is being held without bond.
