A traffic stop near the Walker County line on Saturday afternoon led to the arrest of an eighteen-year-old Trion man.

According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy stopped the vehicle driven by Zachariah Sims because it was missing a passenger-side mirror.

The deputy said that he could smell the strong odor of marijuana as he approached the vehicle.  Mr. Sims told the deputy he “might have a roach in the ashtray.”  As the deputy continued to speak with Mr. Sims, the subject pulled out a bag of marijuana and handed it to the deputy.  The deputy told Mr. Sims if there was anything else to hand it over.  Mr. Sims then produced a clear, glass vile containing suspected crystal meth.

When deputies searched the vehicle, they found a small amount of suspected methamphetamine in a Starburst candy wrapper.  Mr. Sims told the officer he had forgotten about that.

Sims was arrested and taken to the Chattooga County Jail on charges of possession of methamphetamine.
