The Trion Board of Education has appointed Dr. Howard Hughes as Interim Superintendent, selecting him to guide the school district through a period of transition following the recent passing of Superintendent Dr. Phil Williams.
At Monday night’s meeting, the board began by reflecting on Dr. Williams’ impact on Trion City Schools, noting his years of service and the deep loss felt across the community. With the district needing steady leadership in the months ahead, the board approved Dr. Hughes to step into the interim role.
The board says a formal timeline for appointing a permanent superintendent will be established at an upcoming meeting. Members emphasized their intention to move carefully and thoughtfully through the process to ensure continuity and support for students and staff.
Dr. Hughes shared his appreciation for the board’s confidence and emphasized his long-standing connection to Trion. He noted that Trion City Schools have played an important role in his life personally and professionally, and he expressed his commitment to supporting the district through this transition period.
