Despite a 22-3 overall season record, the Trion Bulldogs boys basketball team may have to travel to south Georgia for the first round of the GHSA playoffs. The Bulldogs finished the regular season ranked 7th according to the final power rankings released this morning by the GHSA. The top 8 teams in the power rankings are granted a home game for the first round of the playoffs.
However, the #8 and #9 ranked teams (Dooly County and Wilkinson County) won their region tournaments and receive priority status over teams like Trion who did not win their region. The official playoff brackets will not be released until Friday but it is expected that Trion will be bumped to a 10 seed and therefore play on the road versus the #7 seed. The #7 seed is not known for certain right now but some websites are projecting the #7 seed to be Calhoun County which is approximately 275 miles south of Trion in extreme southwest Georgia.
AM 1180 will update Trion's playoff situation tomorrow as soon as the official brackets are released from the GHSA.
