Trion High School’s Sam Mobbs has won the GHSA Slam Dunk Contest championship. The finals occurred last Saturday at the Macon Coliseum and featured the top three dunkers in Georgia. Mobbs, a standout from the Class of 2026 for the Trion Bulldogs, impressed both judges and the crowd with his aerial skills to secure the title. He competed against Jalyn Sweat from Bradwell Institute and Olurermi Guerro from Druid Hills, who also reached the finals after a preliminary round. Mobbs showed confidence before the contest, noting his dunks looked better than those of his competitors. He credited his success to a strong support system, especially his mother’s help. Mobbs also considered strategic factors, like the order of competitors, for his dunk choices. Mobbs averaged 22. 3 points, 6. 1 rebounds, and 2. 6 blocks per game for the Trion Bulldogs. Apart from basketball,  enjoys math and playing NBA 2K25. The GHSA Slam Dunk/3-Point Contest took place from March 6-8 at the Macon Coliseum.
