There was no doubt that the Trion Bulldog Wrestling team were contenders going into Saturday’s GHSA Class A dual meet championship, but they were facing some very stiff competition agaisnt Mount Pisgah and Social Circle.    Commerce had won six consecutive state duals titles until Trion ended that run two years ago.

But headed into the state championship, the Bulldogs had only allowed six points in four matches.

Trion Coach Eric Brock was leading a team of seasoned wrestlers with the juniors and seniors on the team part of the 2020 state championship.  Brock said that all year he has been working to challenge the team.  Brock said, “I have tried to schedule some tough competition, and they have responded.  We have a solid lineup that I believe can win every time they step on the mat.” Brock knew that the competition would be tough and predicted that Trion could be in the finals against Social Circle on Saturday.

It all paid off as Trion defeated Screven County 77-6 in the first round and moved on to defeat Mount Pisgah 42-30 in the semifinals.  The Bulldogs went on to win the championship by defeating Social Circle 43-27 with a pin by Logan Eller.

The Bulldogs traveled back to Trion to a jubilant crowd at Trion High School late Saturday night.  Congratulations to the State Champion Trion Bulldog Wrestling team.
