After a decisive win over the Manchester Blue Devils in their Homecoming game last week, the Trion Bulldogs were unable to capitalize on that momentum on Friday night, (October 3, 2025), with the Mount Zion Eagles staging a dominant victory with a final score of 41-17.

The game, while ultimately a decisive win for Mount Zion, saw moments of a closer battle before the Eagles truly broke away.

After a slow, scoreless first quarter, Mount Zion finally ignited the scoreboard early in the second period. A two-yard touchdown run with 8:39 left until halftime silenced the crowd and put the Eagles up 7-0.

Trion quickly responded, showing flashes of their offensive capability with a long 75-yard screen pass touchdown. However, Mount Zion managed to extend their lead once more before the break, heading into halftime with a 13-7 advantage.

The Eagles continued to build momentum in the third quarter. A spectacular 71-yard catch and run expanded Mount Zion’s lead, putting them up by two scores at 20-10 after Trion had seemingly cut the deficit with a field goal. Trion fought back once more, with Landon Kimbell capping off a drive with a touchdown to bring the Bulldogs within a single score, 20-17.

But the final stretch of the third quarter was all Mount Zion. The Eagles orchestrated a sustained drive, culminating in a two-yard touchdown run. After the extra point, Mount Zion had seized a commanding 34-17 lead heading into the final quarter. The Bulldogs were unable to mount a fourth-quarter rally, ultimately taking the 41-17 loss.

The Trion Bulldogs now hold a season record of 3-4. They will look to rebound next week as they return home to Sam R. McCain Stadium to face Westbrook Christian.
