The Town of Trion is considering a wine and beer pouring license.

Councilman Lanny Thomas brought up the measure at Thursday night's work session. It seems the town has been approached in the past months by those interested in re-opening the Tavern as a restaurant, however re-opening the facility could be contingent on having that license.

Lanny said a wine and beer pouring ordinance could open up possibilities for that restaurant and possibly others.

Town attorney Chris Corbin is writing up a proposed ordinance for the council to consider. In the meantime, the council wants feedback from the community.

The measure would only include beer and wine to be poured in restaurants, similar to what is now allowed in Chattooga County and the City of Summerville. It would not allow package stores or liquor by the drink, according to Thomas. The council could vote on the measure at the February council meeting.
