The Trion Town Council voted last Thursday to approve a measure that will create a Public Safety Director for the town. The move was approved after a request from Mayor Lanny Thomas to create the position to streamline budgetary request for the Trion Police and Trion Fire Departments. Trion Police Chief David Gilliland will now serve as police chief and public safety director for the town and will coordinate budgetary matters for both the police and fire departments. The vote to approve the position was 4-1, with Councilwoman Becky McWhorter opposing the measure.
