The Trion Town Council will hold their regular monthly meeting for November coming up tomorrow evening.  On the agenda for tomorrow’s meeting, the council will be discussing the new Public Safety Director’s position.

The council approved the position at their last meeting and named Police Chief David Gilliland to be the new Trion Public Safety Director.  In a statement to WZQZ News, Mayor Lanny Thomas explained the reasoning for the new position. Mayor Thomas said, “In addressing the reasoning behind placing the fire department under the supervision of Public Safety Director Gilleland, it was done for several reasons. One is that the fire department is run by a volunteer staff. The Fire Chief has a full time job but makes time to run a fire department. Now that there is a director of public safety, the fire chief will no longer be labored with administrative work and decisions”.

Tomorrow evening, the Trion Town Council will be asked to approve the job description for the new public safety director position.

The council will have a work session at 6 PM and the regular meeting will follow shortly thereafter.  The public is invited to attend.
