The Triangle in Trion has undergone a lot of changes over the years.  What was once a bustling retail area that also included the Trion Post Office now looks vastly different.  Right now, there is the Advent Health facility and First National Bank in the former shopping center.  But, that will be changing as the Town of Trion plans to develop a park.

WZQZ News spoke with Trion Mayor Lanny Thomas who said that the park is in the development stages right now.  The mayor says that the park will be completed in increments, and while there is no official timetable for completion, work is beginning.  The Trion Town Council has approved a plan for trees and plants for the park, that will be located behind the urgent care along Central Avenue.  The trees and plants will be purchased from Pine Ridge Outdoor Supply in Lyerly at a cost of $7,200 to the town.

Mayor Thomas says that planting will begin this week and next will be a sign.  The mayor says that the sign for the park will have pictures of how the Triangle used to look, along with pictures of Fay and Sue Hurley.

The Hurley family donated that land to the Town of Trion on the condition that a park be placed in the area that was dedicated to Mr. and Mrs. Hurley.

The mayor said that in addition to the planting of trees, shrubs and other plants the town is considering a gazebo at the park.
