The Trion Fire Department is revolutionizing how it recruits and trains its personnel, announcing a new in-house program that allows aspiring firefighters to achieve state certification entirely within Trion, even with no prior experience. Fire Chief William Justin Lowe, Sr. confirmed the department is actively seeking applicants for its next certified class, offering a direct path into a vital public service career.

This groundbreaking initiative means that candidates in Trion no longer need to travel to distant facilities for state certification exams. The Trion Fire Department can now monitor the Georgia Firefighters Standards and Training Center’s state firefighters test directly at its local station.

“We are incredibly proud to offer this unique opportunity right here in Trion,” said Chief Lowe. “Our goal is to remove barriers for dedicated individuals who want to serve their community and provide them with top-tier training and certification from start to finish.”

The success of this new approach was recently demonstrated with the completion of “Class Trion Fire 25-01,” the department’s first-ever state-certified class. Chief Lowe reported that out of 12 initial students, six successfully completed the rigorous course. All six graduates passed both the challenging live fire portion and the subsequent state certification test, marking a significant achievement for Trion’s local training efforts.

Building on this success, the Trion Fire Department is gearing up for its second class, “Class Trion Fire 25-02,” set to begin on September 27, 2025. Chief Lowe, who serves as the lead instructor for these intensive programs, brings specialized expertise, having completed his State Fire Instructor 2 certification in October 2024 – a crucial qualification for teaching classes that involve live fire components.

With limited spots available for the upcoming class, Chief Lowe is encouraging interested applicants to apply promptly to become a Trion Fire member. The application window for this unique opportunity will close on September 24, 2025, at 5:00 PM.

Beyond the invaluable training, joining the Trion Fire Department offers outstanding benefits designed to support its members long-term. These include:

A paid monthly pension for the remainder of their life after just 15 years of service, with the department covering the monthly 25 dues for the pension.
A reimbursement every six months.
All state-certified training is fully provided by the department.
