As the cold weather makes an early-spring comeback, the Trion Fire Department was called to the scene of a chimney fire this week.

Firefighters responded to a 911 call for a chimney fire on Bankey Farm Road which runs between Trion-Teloga Road and Tate Road west of Trion.  According to the Trion Fire Department, the fire was extinguished quickly with no serious property damage.

Homeowners who use wood-burning fireplaces and stoves are reminded to regularly check their chimneys and flues to be sure there is no creosote buildup that can cause a fire.  Also, wood-burning stoves should be installed correctly, according to manufacturer’s recommendations and safety codes.
