A lot of us are still getting used to the time change from earlier this month, but the Trion Fire Department is asking area residents to make sure to check the batteries in your smoke detectors, if you haven’t already.

The Trion Fire Department posted:

Change the batteries in each smoke detector twice a year. Don’t depend on the smoke detector beeps to alert you if it’s not working. To keep your family safe, give smoke detectors a quick check each month. To find out how old a smoke alarm is, simply look on the back of the alarm where the date of manufacture is marked.

The fire department added, “Smoke alarms should be replaced 10 years from the manufacture date. If you are in need of batteries or smoke alarms please get in touch with your local fire department.”
