The Pride of Trion Marching Band traveled Saturday, October 20, to the Rockmart Yellow Jacket Classic where they placed 1st place in Class A out of 5 bands! This was the band’s first 1st place trophy in three years. Mr. Steelnack has worked hard with the band this year to fine tune their performance to achieve their first place title.

Senior Bethany Cordle said, “Practice was really good leading up to the competition. Everyone buckled down and worked hard. On Thursday we had a guest speaker, Mr. Christian, a retired band director, who came and he said somethings that helped me perform better. I think him coming and putting us in our place on Thursday and reminding us to work as a team more really helped with our Friday practice.”

The band took the field at 3:50 p.m. in the colder weather to perform their show titled The Pursuit of Happiness. The band members gave this performance their all and were rewarded with quite a few titles.

After awards that evening, The Pride of Trion Marching Band came home with 1st Place in band, 1st Place in Drum Major, 2nd Place in Percussion, 2nd Place in Color Guard, and the Spirit Pop award. The band received superior ratings in all categories giving them the title of the 1st Place band in the Class A category.

“It feels like it’s been a long time coming. It feels really great to finally see all of our hard work pay off because a lot of band members have been working hard for a really long time and it was great to have the reward. I believe that once everyone focused on their own individual responsibility, intervals, and fitting into formations it will go a long way for our final performance of the season,” stated junior Tanner Chisolm.

The band will travel this Saturday, October 27, to the Peach State Marching Festival for their final competition of the season. The competition will be held in Rome, Georgia and the band will perform at 2:40 p.m.
