The Trion Lady Bulldogs are headed to the Georgia High School Association Class A State Softball Championship after defeating Wheeler County 6-3 in 12 innings on Friday afternoon in Columbus.

The victory at the South Commons Softball Complex continues an outstanding postseason run for the Lady Bulldogs, who have now won 14 consecutive games.

Trion entered Friday’s matchup undefeated in the Elite Eight tournament after posting back-to-back shutout victories. The Lady Bulldogs opened tournament play Wednesday with a 2-0 win over Irwin County before defeating Emanuel County Institute 1-0 on Thursday.

Freshman pitcher Hartley Staton has played a key role in Trion’s postseason success, helping lead the team through a challenging field of Class A opponents.

Friday’s victory over Wheeler County, one of the state’s top-ranked Class A teams, puts Trion in position to compete for a state championship.

Under head coach Trent Stamey, the Lady Bulldogs have put together one of the program’s most impressive postseason performances, advancing to the Elite Eight for the second consecutive season and now reaching the championship round.

The GHSA State Softball Tournament concludes Saturday, October 31, in Columbus at 12:15 PM.
