Trion School Supt. Dr. Phil Williams is looking to build a covered walkway for high school students who must go from the main building to the gym. Dr. Williams says that with students having to switch buildings during the school day, there is a need for a covered passage between the two buildings. 

Williams put forth a prospective design for the walkway to the Trion Board of Education at their meeting last week.  The biggest obstacle to getting the walkway built is finding a contractor to do it.

In December of last year, Dr. Williams got approval from the Board of Education to build an awning in front of the building to make loading and unloading students easier during inclement weather.  That project got put on hold in March of this year because no contractors wanted to bid on the job.  At the time, Dr. Williams told WZQZ News, “In the post-Covid economy, many smaller contractors who would have been willing to complete the job have gone out of business and larger contractors are either to far backed up to take on the project or are not interested in such a small job”.

The one contractor that was willing to do the awning job could not promise to have the project completed for the start of the school year.
