A twenty-six-year-old Trion man tried begging with a deputy to stay out of jail after he was stopped for driving under the influence of alcohol shortly after 2 AM on New Year’s Day.

According to a report from the sheriff’s department, a deputy noticed a car crossing the center line and veering into the turning lane near El Publito’s in Summerville.  The deputy followed the car on Farrar Drive and stopped the vehicle in the back parking lot of Oakview Nursing Home.

When the deputy approached the window the driver, identified as Dillion Andrew Smith, began to plead with the deputy saying, “please, please, please.”  After several requests for his drivers license, Smith handed them over to the deputy and continued to plead with him not to take him to jail.  The officer suspected that Smith was under the influence of alcohol.

During a field sobriety test, Smith reportedly asked the deputy to go ahead and take him to jail because he was on the property of his employer at the time of the stop.

Smith was transported to the Chattooga County Jail charged with DUI for alcohol and failure to maintain lane.
