Trion Mayor Lanny E. Thomas has been elected to a prestigious leadership role within the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA), taking the helm as District One President. This new position places Mayor Thomas at the forefront of municipal advocacy and support for cities across his district.

The Georgia Municipal Association is the only statewide organization representing municipal governments in Georgia, playing a crucial role in shaping the future of the state’s cities.

In his new capacity as District One President, Mayor Thomas will contribute to the GMA’s mission to anticipate and influence the forces shaping Georgia’s cities, providing leadership, tools, and services to assist municipal governments in becoming more innovative, effective, and responsive.

Joining Mayor Thomas in the District One leadership is Matthew Santini, Mayor of the City of Cartersville, who was elected as the 1st Vice President.

Founded in 1933, the Atlanta-based Georgia Municipal Association is a voluntary, non-profit organization that offers a comprehensive range of services to its members, including legislative advocacy, educational programs, employee benefits, and technical consulting.

The GMA currently represents 537 cities across Georgia, working to ensure their collective voice is heard at the state level. The association is governed by a 62-member Board of Directors, comprised of city officials, and its programs are implemented by an Executive Director and a dedicated staff of over 100 full-time employees.

Mayor Thomas’s election to this role highlights his dedication to effective local governance. His leadership in District One will be vital in advancing the interests of cities and towns throughout the region.
