Trion Mayor Lanny Thomas says that misinformation is at the root of a statement in the local newspaper.

The local paper allows people to call in anonymously and make statements and publishes those statements without the caller having to identify themselves or where their information comes from.
This week, an anonymous complaint about the Town of Trion using the town’s tax money to renovate bathrooms at the Trion Recreation Center, prompted the mayor to issue a statement about those renovations.  You can see Mayor Thomas’s statement below:
I feel the need to inform the public regarding the comment in Sound off. As is the usual case, this statement, like most, are from people ignorant of the history and facts surrounding their statement.
1. There are two restrooms in the Recreation Center.
2. There are 4 locker rooms with showers and toilets in them in the recreation center.
3. The history behind the recreation center having 4 locker rooms is that when it was built , Trion High School used it for physical education and extracurricular programs.
4. The restrooms and locker rooms have not been updated in over 30 years.
5. There were no approved ADA facilities in any of the restrooms or lockers.
6. I, the Council, and the administration at the rec show great pride in our town and wish to provide the very best for the people of Trion and her guests .
7. This might be the most important part of my rebuttal. The person ended their statement with, “Sure is a lot of money for the taxpayers of The Town of Trion.” We used NO Town of Trion tax money in remodeling the rooms. We used SPOLST funding for it all!
