CCRPI replaced the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) metric when the U.S. Department of Education granted Georgia’s waiver from NCLB on Feb. 9, 2012. CCRPI scores individuals schools and their umbrella districts with an easy to understand 100-point scale. A school and district’s overall score is made up of three major areas: up to 70 points for Achievement, up to 15 points for Progress, and up to 15 points for Achievement Gap. In addition to the three major areas, schools with a significant number of Economically Disadvantaged students, English Learner students, and Students with Disabilities receive up to 10 “Challenge Points” to their score, as well as additional points when students participate in college and career readiness programs.

CCRPI also provides ratings for financial efficiency and school climate which are for the public’s information only but are not factored into the school’s overall CCRPI score.

The Trion City Schools’ system received an overall grade of 88.8, or a B+ (To see the individual scores of each constituent school, see below). Trion Schools has been a consistent earner of scores in the upper 80’s on the CCRPI index, though it is notable that this is the system’s highest score on the index since it was created. It is an improvement on each of the district’s past scores of 87.2 in 2017, 86.4 in 2016, 79.8 in 2015, 81.4 in 2014, 88.1 in 2013, and 86.9 in 2012.

The system’s score of 88.8 is well above the state average of 76.6, as well as the next-best-scoring school in the Northwest Georgia region, Chickamauga City Schools’ 78.8.

According to Monday’s report, Trion City Schools has an enrollment of 1,360 students, which is within the range of 1,300-1,400 that has persisted since at least 2012.

Of the three grade clusters, Elementary, Middle, and High, the middle school had the strongest overall performance at 93.6, closely followed by the Elementary school with 92.5, trailed by the high school’s 79.7. This year’s score for Trion High School is a sharp drop from its 2017 score of 92.1, but is still considerably stronger than its 2014 score of 71.7.

The middle school also led the system in Content Mastery and Readiness, with sub-scores of 90.4 and 95.2, respectively. The elementary school score a perfect 100 on both Progress and Closing Gaps.
