The Trion Town Council is advancing plans for a dog park, inspired by the vision of a late resident, Brinley Corbin. At a recent meeting, resident Arden Wood raised concerns about health and safety issues related to the park.
Mayor Lanny Thomas reassured her and the community that the town has researched successful dog parks nearby. All dog owners must register with the Trion Recreation Department, and dogs must have up-to-date vaccinations. Mayor Thomas noted that other dog parks have had few problems. Mayor Thomas told WZQZ News that the money for the park will come from the town’s SPLOST funds. $20,000 has been allocated for the park’s development.
The idea for the park came from Brinley Corbin’s funeral service when it was mentioned that she desired to build a dog park. This inspired the Mayor to work with Parks and Recreation Director Chris Mosley and Street Superintendent Brandon Croy to find a suitable location for the project. The council unanimously approved plans for “Brinley’s Dog Park,” which will be located near Rosser Pavilion behind the track field. The park will include a five-foot black-coated fence with a double-gated entry, lights, and security cameras. Access will be controlled through a card-entry system, and residents can get a free access card through simple registration at the recreation center. The park will have separate areas for small and large dogs for safety.
The council plans to bid out the fencing work soon, moving towards making Brinley Corbin’s dream a reality.
