In a display of community commitment to literacy, Trion City Schools played host to a series of engaging read-alouds on Monday, marking the observance of Georgia Reads Day. This annual event, spearheaded by the Georgia Council on Literacy, aims to spotlight the critical importance of reading and celebrate the state’s dedication to fostering literacy skills across all ages.

This year’s GA Reads Day saw an impressive lineup of community leaders step into classrooms at Trion Elementary School to share the joy of reading with students. The initiative encouraged families and communities statewide to engage in reading activities, underscoring the belief that robust literacy is a cornerstone of individual and collective success.

Mayor Lanny Thomas expressed his enthusiasm for the day’s activities, stating, “We all read to classes at Trion Elementary School. In all, we went to 22 classrooms to read and promote literacy.” This widespread participation from elected officials and community figures alike sent a powerful message about the value placed on reading within Trion.

The commitment to literacy in Trion extends beyond GA Reads Day. Mayor Thomas also highlighted a recent successful event held on September 13th, where the Town of Trion, in collaboration with the Sara Hightower Regional Library, sponsored a fall festival. This event, aimed at further demonstrating support for the Trion Public Library, drew an impressive 275 attendees and was described by Mayor Thomas as a “tremendous success.”
