School systems across the nation are seeing a dramatic increase in the number of students and staff with COVID-19.  That’s true at Trion City Schools as well.  According to numbers released on Friday, there are currently 62 cases of COVID-19 in the entire school system.  Almost 4% of the student enrollment and staff at Trion Elementary has tested positive this week.  Trion Middle school has a rate of just over 3% and Trion High School has almost 8% of the student population and staff with COVID.

Trion Schools Director of Technology Howard Hughes said, “Like most school systems, Trion City Schools experienced a surge in COVID positive cases this week. However, it is expected that over 90% of those that tested positive should be eligible to return to school on Tuesday once their symptoms have subsided and their five-day quarantine period is complete.”

Trion City Schools will be out for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday and students return to class on Tuesday.
