Trion City Schools is taking a firm stance on unauthorized use of its campus facilities, announcing that the Trion Police Department will now issue trespassing tickets to individuals found using the grounds without proper authorization. This decision comes after repeated warnings and a year of posted signage regarding the district’s closed campus policy.
According to the Trion City Schools Administration, the closed campus policy is in place to ensure the safety and security of students, staff, and community members. The policy requires direct permission, supervision, and participation from authorized staff members for any use of school facilities. “Without this requirement, the school district is exposed to tremendous liability,” the Administration stated. The Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA), the school’s insurance carrier, also mandates staff presence at after-school events. Despite clear signage and numerous verbal warnings over the past year, unauthorized use of the campus has persisted, often involving individuals from outside of Trion. The Administration reports instances of damaged equipment and litter left behind, exacerbating the liability concerns. “These violations occur frequently, are often enacted by out-of-town individuals, and the individuals often leave our campus with damaged equipment and covered in discarded litter,” the statement read.
To combat these issues and protect the district, the Trion Police Department will now be enforcing the closed campus policy by issuing trespass tickets to those found in violation.
