Productive was last night’s regularly scheduled meeting of the Trion town council.

About ten minutes into the meeting, the council held an approximately hour-long executive session (a parliamentary term for a closed-door yet ‘on the record’ meeting). The session was held for the council and attorney Albert Palmour to plan opening a position for a new town code enforcer and building inspector. The council, save Jeff ‘Fro’ Wilson (absent to celebrate his grandchild), exited the session and announced the position, which will be advertised in the local paper, on the GMA website, and internally. The salary maximum was set at $37,000.

The council amended its meetings calendar to accommodate for the Winter holiday season: for November, the 15th will the work session and the 27th the regular session; for December, the 13th will be the work session and the 20th the regular session.

Following complaints by local duplex owners, the council will temporarily waive a policy on water meter installation costs for duplexes. If a duplex owner applies in the next 90 days, they will have a reduced cost of $300 for water meter installation (rather than $500). They will then have six months to plumb the property properly so as to connect to the water. There will be a $15/month minimum fee for the service after the installation.

A speed breaker will be placed on either side of Morris St. after a petition was signed by 28 of the street’s residents.

Two benches will be installed at the Trion Recreation center in order to comply stipulations from a public works grant that funded other recreation center improvements.
