There will be a lot of traffic on the roadways across Georgia today, and the Georgia State Patrol is urging safety for the New Year’s Holiday.   While most drivers don’t travel great distances on New Year’s Eve like they do at Thanksgiving and Christmas, state troopers say you still need to plan ahead and drive responsibly.

Of course, the Georgia State Patrol and the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Summerville and Trion Police Departments, will be out looking for drivers who are impaired by alcohol or drugs, but they also remind drivers that distracted driving is dangerous as well.  Georgia’s hands-free law means that drivers are not supposed to have a cell phone in their hands at any time while behind the wheel.

Law enforcement says that there will be zero-tolerance for drunk drivers.  If you drink and drive and get pulled over, you will go to jail.

Think ahead before you party.  It will save possible arrests and fines, injuries – and even deaths.
