No students were injured when a pickup truck rear-ended a Chattooga County School bus in downtown Summerville on Thursday afternoon. The accident happened on Commerce Street in the southbound lane near the Summerville Post Office.
The driver of the truck ran into the back of the bus, causing major damage to the pickup truck, but no visible damage to the bus. The driver was not injured and none of the twelve students, nor the bus driver were injured in the accident. Law enforcement relocated the bus to the Summerville First Baptist Church parking lot and parents were informed about the accident.
Chattooga County School Supt. Michelle Helie told WZQZ News, ” A Chattooga County school bus was involved in an accident around 3:45 PM. The bus was transporting 12 students home. The district response team made it to the scene, along with emergency medical and There were no injuries to the students. They were either transported home or parents picked them up on the scene. There were no injuries to the bus driver and no known injuries to the truck driver that hit the school bus”.
