Qualifying for local offices in Chattooga County closed at noon on Friday of last week.  Two candidates will assume office next year without having to campaign. 

State Court Judge Jon Dennis was the only person to qualify for the state court judge position.  Dennis has held that position since 2012 when he defeated Sam Finster.  The state court judgeship is a nonpartisan position that will be on the ballot in May when the local primary elections are held.

Democrat Lynn Hall of Menlo will not have any opposition in the Primary Election in May, but he will be facing off with the winner of a three-way contest between candidates in the Republican Primary for a seat on the county board of education.  Steve Groves, Lori Brady and Mark Pickle have all qualified for the position as Republicans.

The Lyerly seat on the board of education will go to the winner of the Republican Primary in May.  Bonnie Fletcher and Norval Terry Henderson are both running as Republicans for that seat.  That position is currently held by Spencer Hogg who announced that he will not be running for election.

Tiffany Lawrence will be the new school board member representing the Pennville seat.  Lawrence was the only person to qualify for that seat that is currently held by Brad Hayes.  Hayes announced that he would not seek reelection.
