Two men were killed early Thursday morning after they were struck by a CSX train in Calhoun.

According to Calhoun Police investigator Tony Pyle, Stephen Gregory Mulkey, 27 and Kenneth William Broome, 27, both of Calhoun were standing or sitting on the tracks on Jolley Road near U.S. 41 and Ga. 225 in Calhoun at 4:48 a.m. when they were struck by the train traveling from Memphis to Atlanta.

Pyle said investigators found the bodies of the two men trapped under the train.

Police have determined that alcohol was a contributing factor in the accident. Family members of both victims stated to police that both men had been drinking heavily  Wednesday night.

He said the train was equipped with a camera called an Event Recorder on the engine, but the tape can only be viewed at CSX headquarters in Jacksonville, Fla.
