Several reliable sources tell AM 1180 that two correction officers were stabbed at Hays State Prison on Saturday night. The circumstances surrounding the stabbing are not known at this time. Sources say that the correction officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries. It is not known what their condition is at this time.
The situation at Hays State Prison is growing increasingly dangerous. Over the past month, four inmates have died – three of those deaths have been homicides according to the Georgia Department of Corrections (DOC). The fourth death was reportedly and inmate that had chronic health issues. The DOC has been very limited in the amount of information that they release to the public, local law enforcement and the media.
On Monday, AM 1180 will have a feature story on the air and on our web site regarding the situation at Hays Prison – including information that one of the homicide victims may have died from lack of proper medical attention while in isolation.
UPDATE 2:00 PM – Sunday
The stabbing that took place at Hays Prison happened around 1 AM on Sunday morning when a correction officer and a sergeant were stabbed during an altercation involving an inmate. According to sources, the incident occurred outside the dormitory when a correction officer was attacked by at least one inmate with a home made knife, or "shank". AM 1180 has learned that the officers were stabbed with an "extraordinarily long" shank. Another correction officer came to the defense of the officer being stabbed and was also stabbed in the altercation. Neither officer received life-threatening wounds from the stabbing incident.

You act like the violence is something new to Hays State Prison. That’s what you get when you have a Georgia government DOC administration and a prison administration that allows the inmates to have shanks and gives them warnings of upcoming shakedowns so they can hide the shanks they have so the shakedown will not produce any contraband, thus making the prison look good to Departmental officials and the general public. What the public doesn’t know about doesn’t hurt the public. I truly do not see how the Departmental officials sleep at night. This has happened in the past, has been documented and reported on in the past, and will no doubt be continued in the future. The officers are not now, and will never be safe at Hays State Prison until you get someone running the Department who actually cares. Make no mistake about it. The Department does not now, or has EVER cared about the officer who have to man these posts on a nightly basis. As far as the public goes, as long as the inmate isn’t breaking down their back door in the middle of the night, they could care less. Just the nature of the beast. It is what it is. Apathy breeds ignorance, and ignorance is bliss.
Not sure when this happened, but my son was stabbed 5 times in Macon state prison by his cellmate and it took him over a hour to get help because there wasn’t a officer in the building so he had to try and defend himself while screaming and beating on the door,the guy that stabbed him, RAYMOND ROY,was never even charged,
