There is no doubt that there are plenty of jobs out there for anyone willing and able to work, but the number of available workers continues to shrink.

For the month of June, Chattooga County saw a 28% decrease in the number of people filing first-time unemployment claims.  In May there were 162 first-time claims and that number shrank to only 117 in June.

This month, the State of Georgia reinstated the job-search requirements for those drawing unemployment which could have possible led to more workers returning to the workforce.

Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said, “We have a serious workforce issue reflected in the monthly drop in the labor force. We are looking to reemploy Georgians as a critical component for our economic recovery.”

Even with more and more workers returning to work, there are still thousands of jobs in Georgia that are not filled.
