While most Northwest Georgia counties showed an increase in unemployment claims last month, Chattooga County’s initial unemployment claims went down. According to numbers released on Thursday of last week by the Georgia Department of Labor, unemployment claims were down in Chattooga County for the month of July.  In June of this year there were 215 claims.  The numbers decreased substantially to just 90 initial unemployment claims for the month of July.  That number is also lower than this time last year when 111 people filed first-time unemployment claims in Chattooga County.
