Less than twelve months ago, Chattooga County had one of the highest unemployment rates in the state.  The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 led to unemployment rates of over 12%.  But now, the county’s unemployment rate is at a record low.

Last week, the Georgia Department of Labor announced that Chattooga’s unemployment rate was 3.1% – a historically low rate for the county.  Labor Commissioner Mark Butler says that the record low unemployment is a sign that the economy is recovering rapidly since the onset of the pandemic.

Still, many employers are looking for workers.  Help wanted signs are common in the service industry – such as restaurants.  But manufacturers are still looking for workers in the area.  Also, many municipalities and other local governments are looking for workers.

Labor Commissioner Butler says, “We are working with employers across the state to post, recruit, and fill critical positions in preparation for a strong holiday employment season.”
