Chattooga County Road crews had a long day on Monday, and it would appear that they are in for another long day on Tuesday.  Public Works Director Lamar Canada told AM 1180 that crews would be headed back out this morning, hitting some of most travelled roads first and then moving on to other county roads – scraping and the spreading salt and gravel.

Yesterday county road crews got to many of the county roads, but were not able to totally clear many of the roads.  With temperatures dropping  below freezing overnight, the slush from Monday’s road work turned into ice by  and is causing some slick spots on roads around the county. Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters is urging Chattooga County residents not to travel unless necessary this morning and to give the county road crews time to get roads in passable shape. Commissioner Winters and Lamar Canada reported this morning that the most treacherous spot in the county is Cloudland. Canada said crews are scraping, salting and plowing the mountain to make it passable, but there are several patches of ice making travel tough. Canada also reported that Taylor’s Ridge is open. As for the rest of the county, Winters said that there are icy patches all over and once again he urges drivers to use caution if they must travel.  Passable and safe do not go hand in hand and travel can be tricky. Please be cautious when driving and drive slowly.
