Seven felony charges including murder and multiple counts of aggravated assault have been filed against 26-year-old Robert Timothy Spriggs of Rome in connection with two shooting incidents yesterday afternoon. The first occurred about 4-30 at 4565 Old Dalton Road where 46-year-old John Gregory Davis..a resident of the home at that location was pronounced dead just after 6-30 by Floyd County Deputy Coroner Ernie Studdard. Spriggs then allegedly took Davis’ Chevy Blazer and drove to 127 East Clinton Drive where he shot and injured 32-year-old Scott Sulsberger.
Rome Police Lieutenant Mark Tyson says Spriggs fled on foot from the second shooting location. Spriggs was taken into custody without further incident at 6-15. Lieutenant Tyson says residents of the neighborhood were advised to stay in their homes and others were kept from entering the subdivision. The body of the fatal victim has been taken to the state crime lab for an autopsy. The second victim continues to receive treatment at a local hospital at last report.
The Rome News Tribune is reporting this afternoon that the second shooting victim is recovering and is reported to be up and walking today.
