Additional information has now been released – regarding the circumstances surrounding a Walker County shooting incident which left one man dead, another injured, and the shooter charged with murder.

According to that initial report, three individuals were visiting the step-daughter of 52 year old Michael James Gobert on Monday night; the step-daughter lives on Gobert's property in a mobile home directly behind his residence.

Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson said at some point, an altercation erupted between one of the three men and the step-daughter eventually spilling out into the yard, waking Gobert,

who was asleep in his house next door.

Gobert went outside, armed with a .40 caliber Glock – and after firing a "warning shot" fired off some ten to fifteen additional rounds, striking two of the three men.

When authorities arrived on the scene, they found 31 year old Johnny "JJ" Montgomery, of a Ringgold address, dead behind the wheel of the Nissan Sentra that the trio had arrived in.

30 year old Edruis Jamel Putman of Harrison, Tennessee, was shot once in the leg; the other man, 28 year old Deisman Harrison, escaped injury.

The incident took place shortly after 11:00pm.

Reportedly, both Gobert and his wife were armed with handguns, and each fired a "warning shot", however the wife did not fire any additional rounds. 

The shooting apparently began when Gobert noticed abrasions on the face of his step-daughter, identified as Nicole Carroll.

According to reports, during that original altercation, she had been struck in the face with a humidifier which had been thrown by Putman who was charged with misdemeanor battery as a result.

Gobert has been charged with one count of Murder and two counts of Aggravated Assault.

The GBI is currently assisting the Walker County Sheriff's Office with the investigation.
