Lookout Mountain resident and University of Tennessee-Chattanooga professor, Jack Zibluk, has officially announced his candidacy for Georgia’s 53rd State Senate District. As part of his ongoing campaign efforts, Zibluk recently addressed the Chattooga County Democratic Party at its meeting on October 20, 2025.

During his remarks, Zibluk reiterated his core message, emphasizing the crucial need for bipartisan senators willing to collaboratively forge solutions for the citizens of the 53rd State Senate District. His platform aims to bridge political divides and address the tangible needs of the communities he seeks to represent.

Zibluk is embarking on a mission to unseat incumbent Republican Senator Colton Moore, who drew significant attention earlier this year following his arrest for violating a ban on entering the Georgia House chamber.

“For too long, the residents of this district haven’t had a voice—or, frankly, a brain and a body working on their behalf,” Zibluk stated during his announcement, directly criticizing Senator Moore for what he characterized as a focus on “partisan division and grandstanding” rather than on meaningful representation for the diverse array of constituents across Dade, Walker, Catoosa, Chattooga, and Floyd counties.

Zibluk, 65, brings a wealth of experience to his campaign. A former department head of communication at UTC, he describes himself as a “recovering journalist.” This is not his first foray into state politics, having previously run for state representative. That past experience, he says, has provided valuable insight into the intricacies of campaigning. “This time, I sort of have a clue about what I’m doing,” he joked, highlighting a more organized approach to his current run.
