In a social media post this week, Wal-Mart, based in Bentonville, Arkansas, posted that they will be closing all of their stores on Thanksgiving Day this year.

The news is seen as a barometer for other businesses since Wal-Mart is the nation’s largest retailers.  For several years, Wal-Mart has been open on Thanksgiving Day to jump-start “Black Friday” sales.  It is not clear how the move from Wal-Mart will impact one of the biggest shopping days of the year.

Also, Wal-Mart announced that it will be paying out more than $428 million in additional bonuses to workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
