GRANDPARENTS HAVE BEEN CHARGED BY LAFAYETTE POLICE AFTER LEAVING THEIR GRANDSON AT THE LOCAL WALMART, SUNDAY MORNING.  TERRY AND LISA TEMPLETON WERE CHARGED WITH RECKLESS CONDUCT AND RELEASED MONDAY AFTER POSTING $500 BONDS.

STORE VIDEO SHOWS THE TEMPLETONS CHECKING OUT AND LEAVING THE STORE.  HE LOADED THE TRUNK… BUT LEFT THE 2 YEAR OLD IN THE SHOPPING CART CHILD-SEAT.  TEMPLETON WENT BACK TO THE CAR… THEN MINUTES LATER, RE-ENTERED THE STORE.  JUST OVER 30 MINUTES AFTER LEAVING THE CHILD ALONE… THE COUPLE DROVE OUT OF THE PARKING LOT.

IN THE MEAN TIME, A PASSER-BY NOTICED THE CHILD ALONE IN THE 40 DEGREE WEATHER… AND TOOK HIM TO THE STORE MANAGER.   A CALL WAS MADE ON THE P.A. SYSTEM… BUT NO ONE CLAIMED THE CHILD, EVEN THOUGH TEMPLETON WAS APPARENTLY IN THE STORE AT THE TIME.

POLICE SAY THE TEMPLETONS RETURNED TO THE STORE 30 TO 40 MINUTES LATER, LOOKING FOR THE CHILD.   THE TODDLER, WHO HAS SPINA BIFIDA, SAT UNATTENDED IN THE PARKING LOT FOR ABOUT FIVE MINUTES.   THE CHILD’S MOTHER TOLD POLICE THE GRANDPARENTS HAD BEEN BABY SITTING WHILE SHE WAS AT WORK.
