Walker County has been operating under a board of commissioners for less than two years and already it appears that some commissioners are wanting to change the way the county government is managed.

When the new county commission was set up by an act of the Georgia Legislature, moving the county from a sole-commissioner to a board of commissioners, the chairman of the commission – currently Shannon Whitfield – administers the day-to-day business of the county.  But this week, at the request of two commissioners, an agenda item was added for this month’s commission meeting to add a presentation from the county attorney concerning the hiring of a County Manager.

The meeting is scheduled for this Thursday at 7 PM at the Walker County Courthouse Annex in LaFayette.
