The Walker County Board of Commissioners is slated to convene for its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. The agenda for the session, to be held at the Walker County Courthouse Annex IV, located at 201 S Duke Street in LaFayette, highlights crucial discussions, including a public hearing for the Fiscal Year 2026 budget and a significant rezoning request in Rossville.

A primary focus of the evening will be the Public Hearing on the proposed FY2026 Budget. This session offers residents a crucial opportunity to provide input on how county funds will be allocated for the upcoming fiscal year, impacting services and operations across Walker County.

Following the budget discussion, the Board will hold a Public Hearing concerning a Planning & Zoning request. Jeff Tucker is seeking to rezone property located at 1423 Happy Valley Road in Rossville, GA 30741 (Tax Map & Parcel Number 0-135-080) from R-3 (Residential) to C-1 (Commercial). The Planning Commission previously approved this rezone, albeit with conditions.

Per Walker County Code Chapter 22-109 (c), all public comments regarding a proposed zoning decision must be submitted in writing prior to the commencement of the hearing. The only exception is the applicant, who will be allowed five minutes to address the Board, with potential for additional time at the Board’s discretion.

Under Unfinished Business, the Board will revisit Paul Leming’s request for a variance for property at 0 Old Mineral Springs Road in LaFayette (Tax Map & Parcel Number 0-315-001). This item, concerning a request for less than five acres in an A-1 (Agricultural) zone, was previously tabled at the July 10th meeting. Mr. Leming has now requested that the item be tabled again until September.

The meeting will commence with an invocation and pledge, followed by Chairwoman Teems calling the meeting to order and the Clerk establishing a quorum. Routine administrative matters such as approving the agenda and the minutes from the July 10, 2025 meeting are also on the schedule. Chairwoman Teems will deliver her report, alongside financial, committee, and department reports.
