The Walker County Board of Commissioners is expected to tackle several major issues during its regular meeting on Thursday, August 6, including public hearings on the county’s proposed 2027 fiscal year budget and a proposal to extend the county’s temporary moratorium on new data centers from its current duration to 180 days.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Walker County Courthouse Annex III in LaFayette.

Following the public hearings, commissioners are scheduled to vote on resolutions that would formally establish the 180-day data center moratorium and create a Data Center Study Group to examine the issue further. The board will also consider adopting the county’s General Fund Budget along with Enterprise Funds and Special Revenue budgets for Fiscal Year 2027.

Planning and zoning matters will also be on the agenda, including requests for a setback variance in Flintstone, a variance for more than six driveways on a private drive in Rossville, and a request to allow four manufactured homes within the Chickamauga Battlefield Overlay District. The Planning Commission has recommended approval of the setback variance and manufactured home request while recommending denial of the driveway variance.

Commissioners are also expected to consider several spending items, including more than $40,900 for Hurst hydraulic rescue tools for Emergency Services, approximately $59,675 for the Ivy Street slip-lining project funded by TSPLOST, and about $44,811 for emergency traffic signal replacement at the intersection of McFarland Avenue and Mission Ridge Road.

The board will also revisit a resolution previously tabled regarding the closure of a portion of Concord Road in East Armuchee and consider an agreement for correctional medical services, a grant application for park improvements, and new county financial and surplus property policies.
