The Lafayette-Walker area Empty Stocking Fund distributed 750 bags of food for a Christmas dinner on Friday at the Walker County Agricultural Center.

Almost 2,000 Walker Countians benefitted from the annual Christmas charity event, which is supported by the United Way as well as local contributions.

The fund started in Lafayette in 1973, going “county-wide” in recent years. The bags contained a hen, fruit, canned goods, rolls and other staples for a Christmas dinner.

Months of preparation goes in to the empty stocking grocery giveaway each year, and dozens of individuals and local clubs volunteer their time and energy to make the distribution possible.
